Romeo is an impulsive character who lets his emotions dictate his actions: an example of this is when Romeo kills Tybalt after Tybalt kills Mercutio. after this, Romeo acknowledges this and says, “Oh, I am fortunes fool”. This means he thinks that he is a fool and his impulsiveness get the best of him.
Juliet hints the end of the play without knowing it. this happens when Friar Lawrence, Romeo and Juliet are discussing the consequences of the fight. They find out Romeos punishment is banishment, and they say this, “Hence-banished is banish’d from the world, And world’s exile is death: then banished,
Is death mis-term’d: calling death banishment, Thou cutt’st my head off with a golden axe, And smilest upon the stroke that murders me.” this pretty much means that he would rather die than be without Juliet. Juliet after this says that she would also rather die than be without Romeo. This means that without knowing it she is hinting that they both die in the end.
shakespeare uses a ship metaphor to communicate the idea of fate being in control of Romeos life. an example of this is when the prologue states that “From forth the fatal loins of these two foes, a pair of star-crossed lovers take their life.” This states that from the start the stars have been against Romeo and controlling his life.
Friar lawrence warns Romeo that acting quickly in regards to marrying Juliet could have negative consequences. hh
